The Mid Ward Market
Fiona takes Lily for a shopping trip to the Crane District Mid Ward Market. Here goods and wares from across the sea are bought and sold. It’s the heart of commerce and the engine that had made the Crane district grow so quickly (in elven terms). The surrounding streets are lined with shopfront of the permanent stores. The center plaza is filled with wagons and tents from the ships and caravans that have traveled from faraway lands. And then there are the walking merchants, the Rindr Colossi who use their immense strength to carry their entire store on their back. They walk around the city, always showing up where there is a deal to be made. They often start their flame in the docks, buying goods directly from merchant ships, fishermen or whoever has some “treasure” to sell. Haggling a good discount, they can then walk up the great stairs or take the lift to the Mid Ward and get a good markup on wares.
A Chat With the Merchant
Sharp: Sorry, Fiona, I don’t have enough vials to change an entire flask.
Fiona: Shoot. Give me a pack of tonics too, I’m almost out anyway. What’s my total then?
Sharp: That would be exactly one flask.
Fiona: Of course it is… Fine take it.
Sharp: Darkness, girl, your bargain is softer than a human’s flabby bits.
Lily: My what? Wait, why are you buying a skull?
Fiona: It’s my great grandfather’s cousin thrice removed. I have been looking for him for ages.
Lily: What? Why?
Fiona: For the family skull-tree, of course. Got to collect ’em all, you know? I’ll show you when you come visit.
Lily: Right… I’m not carrying that.
Fiona: A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy, he was. We got lots to talk about… Albeit a bit one-sided now.
Fiona: This is authentic, right? I will have a seer look at him, so don’t try to cheat me. How did you get him anyway?
Sharp: These so called adventurers keep selling me all kinds of treasure having no idea what it’s worth. I payed the idiots all of 10 drops for it.
