Lily’s Notes: Article idea for The Scarlet Scroll.
Test test. I’m writing this on my new typing machine. Oh, this is fun! It makes a ding at the end of the line. Ding! Hehe… Ok, to business.
What is Red Water?
Rocks above, the headline type is really big…
The Idea
Most humans live away from the sea and are not used to its constant red glow. So, we might write an article explaining the red water of the Crimson Sea, and give some useful tips to humans.
Fiona’s input: Fiona was very enthusiastic and gave me the names of two of her more scholarly friends. And, of course, she suggested I meet them for a bath…
Well, no use putting it off… See you in a bit typing machine! (Fiona tells me I don’t need to talk to the machine, but it helps me think, ok? Besides these are my notes, I can do what I want!)
The Experts
I’m back!
I found Fiona’s “expert” friends. I thought this would be a straightforward article. Surely the elves would have figured this out, right? So I asked them why the sea glows.
Barnivald Belgrath (Arch Librarian), said the red water is magic. A power from beyond the mortal realm, far from understood. The glow could be a yet untapped source of magic, similar to blood, oil, and darkness.
Heyden Brin (Humanologist), claims it’s because of tiny glowing creatures. He said they can be seen under a powerful looking glass.
An argument ensued and the two were still going at it when I decided to leave. Honestly, both sides sounded far-fetched to me.
On my way out I ran into a Fiend that I thought looked familiar, only after did I realize where I remembered her from… It was from THAT magazine Fiona writes… Too late, I already struck up a conversation and asked if she knew why the sea glows. She said she couldn’t talk about it because Death doesn’t like the subject (not sure what that means?), but she promised to send me a map of the sea.
The map I got from Thylia was written in a strange language… which I can’t read. So I marked out the parts I do know.
The Map
The map arrived! Wow, it’s beautiful, I’m going to hang it on the wall in my room. I had no idea the sea was so big. It took me a while to even find where we are.
Unfortunately, the map is written in a strange language. Good thing this typing machine has a label function!
Back to red water.
Tips and tricks for humans:
- Red water can be used as a source of light, just fill a glass bottle or jar. Though it only glows for a flame or two.
- Red water is very salty. Adding a splash to a stew makes it more tasty. Boil it before eating!
- Red water has mild healing properties. Great for clearing up a rash or curing pimples.
